“Custom Spine Launches PATHWAY PLIF at
the 23rd Annual NASS meeting”

October 14, 2008 - Toronto, Canada

During this year’s annual meeting of the North American Spine Society, Custom Spine launched the PATHWAY Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF) system.  The interbody spacer is indicated for spinal fusion procedures for the treatment of degenerative, damaged, unstable or collapsed discs.

PATHWAY PLIF is available in a range of heights in both 0° and 6° sizes allowing for a parallel or lordotic configuration to meet the patient’s unique anatomy.  The interbody is manufactured from an implantable grade polymer, which is a synthetic, semi-crystalline organic thermoplastic that is radiolucent and biocompatible, known as PEEK-OPTIMA®, a registered trademark of INVIBIO®. Dual reservoirs allow generous amounts of bone graft to be inserted, to promote in-growth between bone graft and adjacent tissue.

The PATHWAY PLIF system features a customized implant inserter, which has a non-threaded design.  The unique design provides a secure attachment between implant and inserter to prevent cross threading and minimize implant breakage.  Mahmoud Abdelgany, President and CEO commented, “The addition of PATHWAY PLIF is a great addition to the continually expanding Custom Spine product portfolio.  As a company, we are continually seeking to create novel solutions for the spine market and develop products with unique features.”
